Unalaska, Alaska. 1998
Built on top of an existing WWII warehouse foundation, this 9000sf museum serves as the main collection center for history and artifacts of the region. The building form has three main components: the curve roof represents the Aleut culture in the pass; the middle structure with a cupola represents the Russian influence; and the final structure situated perpendicular to the others, where the main entrance is located, represents the most destructive impact to the Aleut culture: World War II. The Aleutians is known as the birth place of storms, but the Aleuts have made these emerald islands their homes for ten thousand years.
This project was designed while at LSI.
